Mid Autumn Festival

The mid autumn Lantern Festival (also called the Moon Festival, or Mooncake festival) or the lantern festival, as it is called in Singapore, is a popular celebration of abundance and togetherness. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month (14 September 2008), on which day it is believed that the moon is at its apogee when it is at it's brightest and is the only day on which it is considered to be perfectly round. This festival is one of the two most important holidays - together with the Lunar New Year. On this day, family members will gather to admire the mid-autumn moon and share moon cakes and pomeloes (Chinese grapefruit). Tradition includes carrying brightly lit lanterns, planting mid-autumn trees, fire dragon dances.

Singapore Chinese Garden’s annual Mid-Autumn Festival is back since 2007. During this event the visitor can witness thousands of hand-made made lanterns and lanterns made from professional lantern-makers. The annual exposition is located in the Chinese Garden (or Jurong Gardens), Singapore.
